About AstraZeneca AstraZeneca is a global, science-led, patient-focused biopharmaceutical company that focuses on the discovery, development and commercialization of prescription medicines for some of the world's most serious diseases. But we're more than one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies. Site Description - Munich, Germany Welcome to Computational Pathology Munich, one of over 400 sites here at AstraZeneca, providing a collaborative environment where everyone can feel comfortable to be themselves—a value that is at the core of AstraZeneca's priorities. To help you maintain your best self, here's a sneak peek into some of the things we provide: after-work events, lunch & learns, a spacious and sustainable office working environment, events, family and childcare support and of course the Alps around the corner for hiking, biking and skiing. We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Test Engineer (m/f/d) with a focus on Python Test Automation to join our Computational Pathology team in Munich. The Senior Software Test Engineer (m/f/d) will lead testing and validation activities for software supporting diagnostic AI and medical image analysis. This is a hands-on, automation-first role in which testing is predominantly automated in Python, with only a small manual component. You will own the testing of one or more tools end to end, determining what needs to be tested and to what depth based on risk, building and maintaining the automated test suites that provide evidence, and producing the documentation required in a regulated environment. You will work across the full software testing lifecycle with developers, data scientists, product owners and quality assurance in projects subject to GxP and medical device standards. Your responsibilities Test approach and ownership: Design and own the test approach for assigned tools, including risk-based scoping, test levels and acceptance criteria. Python test automation: Develop and maintain automated test suites in Python and PyTest, including fixtures, parametrization, test data management and mocking of external dependencies. CI/CD and containerized execution: Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and run them in containerized environments. UI and API testing: Implement automated UI and API testing where appropriate, using Playwright or similar tools. Traceability and validation evidence: Establish and maintain traceability from requirements through tests to executed evidence, and produce validation documentation that withstands audit and inspection. Requirements and change analysis: Review requirements for testability, challenge gaps, ambiguities and unnecessary complexity, and determine the scope of regression and revalidation through impact analysis. Defect management: Investigate, reproduce and triage defects, and manage them through their lifecycle in Jira and Xray. Quality standards and collaboration: Review the test work of others and contribute to raising the testing standard across the team. Your Profile Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline. Five or more years of hands-on software testing experience, with a substantial portion in test automation. Experience in a regulated domain such as pharma, medical device, diagnostics or another GxP environment. Strong, demonstrable Python and PyTest skills. Experience designing and maintaining an automated test framework. Risk-based test design skills, including the ability to derive test scope and depth from requirements and risk and justify what is and is not tested. CI/CD experience, for example GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps, including running tests in pipelines and interpreting pipeline failures. Experience with containerized test execution using Docker. Proficiency with Git workflows, branching, pull requests and code review. API and integration testing experience. Familiarity with test management and defect tracking in Jira, Xray or an equivalent tool. Ability to work independently and own a testing scope without close direction. Confidence in constructively challenging requirements, designs and assumptions. Clear written communication and a collaborative approach across disciplines, including developers and data scientists. What Will Set You Apart Working knowledge of GxP, GAMP 5, computerized system validation or 21 CFR Part 11 and Annex 11, including data integrity and audit trail requirements. Prior experience in pharma compliance or regulated validation projects. Familiarity with IEC 62304, ISO 13485 or ISO 14971. Exposure to UI automation using Playwright, Selenium or Cypress. Understanding of machine learning or medical image analysis and the testing challenges of non-deterministic systems. Experience with cloud environments such as AWS and with Kubernetes. Experience mentoring or coaching other testers. Knowledge of biomarker or companion diagnostics development. Candidates with strong automation experience but less regulatory experience are also encouraged to apply, provided they already have solid risk-based testing fundamentals.
