Full description

Join our global team for a career filled with opportunities to solve challenges both small and large, local and global, simple and complex. Join Wilhelmsen Ships Service as a Software Engineer Location: Lysaker, Norway | Type: Full-time, Hybrid At Wilhelmsen you will work in autonomous product teams who own what they build In this role, you will be given ownership of new or existing products, with significant influence over direction, architecture, and goals. You will not only be responsible for implementing features, but also serve as one of the central decision makers in the team, helping to shape the path you believe will best realize our vision. Wilhelmsen Ships Service is a company fully owned by the Wilhelmsen group. We produce and deliver products essential for vessel operation, from chemicals and mooring ropes to safety equipment. Through our logistics network, we deliver these products to vessels in more than 2000 ports across the globe. Our digital team is building and maintaining customer-facing solutions to support our physical products, like Line Management Plan (LMP) for mooring operations and Waterproof for technical water treatment onboard vessels. Our products and services are built using a variety of technologies and platforms: C#, Blazor, Python, React, Go, Avalonia, Next.js, TypeScript, Azure, OpenAI and GitHub, to mention a few. The shipping industry is rapidly modernizing, and we’re seizing the opportunity to build smart, automated solutions. We’re also building LLM-powered tools that make every day work easier for our colleagues across the business. You’ll work on the products that excite you most, and together with a capable team, solid tooling, and plenty of room for creative side projects, you’ll have the mandate and support to push your skills and our products forward. “Almost nothing we work on here is just an IT problem. In any given week I might be learning how ship engines work or getting to grips with water chemistry, while building software side by side with people who know those fields inside out. I’m not only writing code – I’m helping solve a genuinely complex problem, and I’ve grown a lot from that, both as a developer and as a professional.” – Henrik Slaaen, Head of Engineering & Technology What we are looking for: Have a relevant technical degree or equivalent practical experience. Have professional experience developing and maintaining modern software applications. Are comfortable contributing across both backend and frontend. Like to take ownership, solve problems and challenge existing approaches, rather than simply implementing predefined tasks. Are curious, collaborative and adaptable, with an interest in learning new technologies and domains. How we work: We believe in autonomous teams with strong individuals owning and managing products, not projects, and you’ll play a key part in the future of one or more of our products. Each team is highly independent, and we aim for the applications and services to be loosely coupled. People are still the most valuable part of the equation. “License to Fail”: We prioritize learning over raw efficiency. We want you to test new stacks, break things, and find better ways to solve old problems. Whether you’re a pro in TypeScript, Go, Python, .NET or React, we care more about your problem-solving skills than your specific syntax. If a new language is the right tool for the job, we’ll back you in using it. What we offer: A central role in a company that is shaping the maritime industry The tools you need and love, including AI coding assistants Competitive salary and an attractive pension plan Flexible hours and hybrid work in a self-driven team Global travel, port visits and vessel sailing opportunities (we have a presence in more countries than the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs) Company cabins in both winter and summer locations Our very own sports organization for employees, WIL, with activities such as kayaking, squash, football, yoga and much more (pub crawls and ski trips) Gym and indoor court in the basement of the offices (football every Friday at lunch) Perks like a paid mobile subscription and health insurance If you want to join our team, send us your CV! Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Work Location: Lysaker, Norway (hybrid) Contact for more information: Henrik.Slaaen@wilhelmsen.com #WSS Founded in Norway in 1861, Wilhelmsen is now a comprehensive global maritime group providing essential products and services to the merchant fleet, along with supplying crew and technical management to the largest and most complex vessels ever to sail. Supporting a diverse and inclusive workplace, with thousands of colleagues across more than 60 countries, we take innovation, sustainability and unparalleled customer experiences one step further.
