Job Title: Building and Grounds Technician Department: Facilities Location: Rochester General Hospital- 1425 Portland Ave, Rochester, NY 14621 Hours Per Week: 40 Hrs. Schedule: 7am-330pm SUMMARY: This position plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, clean, and functional healthcare grounds environment and is responsible for the upkeep of facility infrastructure, grounds, and equipment to support patient care, staff operations, and regulatory compliance. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Maintain hospital grounds including landscaping, snow removal, and exterior cleanliness. • Safely operate and maintain a range of grounds maintenance equipment- including mowers, trimmers, blowers and other tools • Basic landscaping- edging, pruning and weeding • Snow removal in the winter months, Truck with plow, Ventrac and hand shoveling • Conduct inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure compliance with healthcare regulations (e.g., DNV, OSHA, NFPA). • Assist with environmental services and infection control protocols during repairs and renovations. • Support facility readiness for emergency situations, including backup power systems and disaster preparedness. • Coordinate with vendors and contractors for specialized repairs and inspections. • Maintain accurate documentation of work orders, inspections, and compliance logs. • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in various indoor and outdoor conditions. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Familiarity with DNV standards and healthcare compliance requirements. • Familiarity with infection control and safety protocols in clinical environments. • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals. • Strong communication and customer service skills. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • 2+ years of experience in building maintenance and grounds/landscaping, preferably in a healthcare or institutional setting. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: • Valid NYS Driver's License EDUCATION: LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS: PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Heavy - This category includes physically intensive work such as lifting heavy materials (up to 100 lbs.), climbing ladders, crawling into tight spaces, and working on uneven, slippery, or elevated surfaces. Employees must demonstrate strong motor coordination, balance, and spatial awareness to safely operate tools and equipment. High visual and auditory alertness is required, especially in areas with moving machinery. Emotional demands are moderate, focusing on hazard recognition, task accuracy, and adherence to safety standards. Environmental exposures may include extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, loud noise, and mechanical hazards. Personal protective equipment (PPE) and periodic physical examinations are often required. For disease specific care programs refer to the program specific requirements of the department for further specifications on experience and educational expectations, including continuing education requirements. PAY RANGE: $19.75 - $25.06 CITY: Rochester POSTAL CODE: 14621 The posted pay range is a good faith representation of potential base pay for this position. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates could vary based on position details and FTE. Pay is determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, locations, and contracts.
