Impact Summary:

The Engineering Technician V will serve as a technical expert, providing critical support to the design, development, substantiation, and documentation of complex aircraft modifications and prototype systems for military and civilian aircraft. The Engineering Technician V will execute critical engineering projects with a high level of autonomy and expertise, ensuring technical excellence in design and implementation. The role requires advanced problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt designs to meet unique specifications and challenging performance criteria. Successful candidates will significantly contribute to the development and improvement of engineering solutions that meet both current and future needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and execute non-routine, complex technical assignments covering a complete project of limited scope or a defined portion of a larger aircraft modification effort; select and adapt layouts, techniques, and design approaches within established engineering guidance.
  • Develop and revise 3D models and detailed 2D aircraft installation, bracket, adapter, structural attachment, cable support, access panel, and assembly drawings, including specifications, parts lists, material callouts, and clear notes and references.
  • Apply applicable ASME Y14.x standards and GD&T to drawing development and review; establish functional datum schemes and appropriate position, profile, flatness, perpendicularity, and runout controls.
  • Maintain consistency between 3D models, 2D drawings, and model-based dimensions and annotations; incorporate engineering redlines and preserve accurate revision history.
  • Interpret wiring diagrams and harness schematics and create 2D wire routing and cable installation drawings that identify clip and strap locations, spacing, penetrations, grommets, strain relief, and separation from adjacent aircraft systems.
  • Research and integrate aircraft technical data from approved naval aviation and platform repositories and original equipment manufacturer documentation to establish design baselines and support modification decisions.
  • Manage CAD and document artifacts in the designated product lifecycle management (PLM) system, including searches, check-out/check-in, revisions, baselines, lifecycle status, and engineering change documentation.
  • Prepare geometry, fastener patterns, and design details for engineering review and structural substantiation, accounting for load paths, shear, tension, bearing, edge distance, pitch, and gage.
  • Coordinate with engineers, structural analysts, manufacturing personnel, quality inspectors, and installation artisans to resolve discrepancies, support fit and clearance verification, and incorporate installation feedback into controlled design updates.
  • Plan or assist with equipment tests and installation evaluations; identify test requirements and procedures, analyze technical data and results, and document findings and recommended modifications.
  • Review and integrate the technical work of others, mentor junior technicians in drawing and GD&T practices, and..

Competencies:

  • Technical judgment: Translates general engineering concepts and incomplete task definitions into practical, releasable technical solutions and identifies issues requiring engineering direction.
  • Drawing precision: Applies drafting standards and GD&T with attention to functional fit, manufacturing capability, inspection feasibility, and aircraft installation constraints.
  • Digital design integration: Maintains alignment among models, drawings, routing documentation, and supporting technical data.
  • Configuration discipline: Maintains traceable revisions, controlled baselines, complete records, and auditable engineering documentation.
  • Problem solving and coordination: Resolves technical discrepancies through analysis and effective communication across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and installation teams.
  • Independent execution and mentorship: Organizes competing assignments, delivers technically complete work, and provides clear guidance and constructive peer feedback
