Full description
TDI Technologies is seeking an early- to mid-career Systems Engineer specializing in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to support Navy ship design, engineering analysis, and systems integration activities at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. The engineer will support the development, integration, and maintenance of system models for complex shipboard Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical (HM&E) systems, with emphasis on Integrated Power Systems (IPS), electrical and mechanical systems, and control systems.
The successful candidate will collaborate with government engineers, design teams, MBSE specialists, and program stakeholders to develop system models that support design analysis, requirements development, system integration, and engineering decision-making. Responsibilities include developing system architecture and behavior models, integrating component models, maintaining requirements traceability, supporting modeling and simulation (M&S), and preparing technical reports and briefings.
This position is ideal for a systems engineer with strong hands-on modeling experience who can translate complex engineering requirements and system designs into accurate, integrated models. Experience with Cameo Systems Modeler and the Object Management Group (OMG) Certified Systems Modeling Professional™ (OCSMP) Intermediate certification is highly desirable.
This is a full-time, on-site position at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard.
Benefits
Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Disability Insurance, Voluntary Benefits, 401K, Tuition Assistance, Paid Vacation, Paid Holiday, and Paid Sick Leave.
Key Responsibilities
Model-Based Systems Engineering
· Develop, modify, and maintain system models representing complex shipboard HM&E systems and associated engineering functions.
· Use Cameo Systems Modeler or similar MBSE platforms to develop structural, behavioral, requirements, and parametric models and diagrams.
· Develop and maintain logical and physical system models, requirements definitions, viewpoints, and traceability relationships.
· Support verification and validation (V&V) model development and ensure models accurately reflect current system designs and requirements.
· Apply appropriate modeling frameworks, schemas, data dictionaries, and standards to maintain consistency across the modeling environment.
· Research existing shipboard and land-based engineering designs to capture essential system characteristics, interfaces, and behavior within system models.
· Contribute to the development of shipboard HM&E ontologies, schemas, and modeling frameworks.
System Modeling, Integration, and Analysis
· Develop real-time and non-real-time system models to support IPS design analyses and engineering evaluations.
· Integrate component-level models into system-level models, including electrical power components, supervisory control systems, and HM&E equipment.
· Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, controls, and systems engineers to ensure model accuracy and consistency.
· Execute modeling and simulation activities to evaluate system performance, design alternatives, and interactions among system components.
· Support IPS and Land-Based Engineering Site (LBES) model integration, engineering analyses, and associated technical deliverables.
· Develop or modify models and analytical tools to support engineering tradespace studies and design evaluations.
· Identify model gaps, integration issues, and inconsistencies that may affect system-level analyses.
· Support ship-level systems engineering, digital engineering, and related program activities.
Engineering Tools and Automation
· Develop or modify code using Java, Python, or similar programming languages to support modeling, analysis, and automation.
· Develop tools and scripts to improve model integration, engineering data management, and analytical workflows.
· Support the exchange of engineering information across modeling environments and interfaces with product lifecycle models.
· Apply appropriate data structures and modeling conventions to improve consistency, reuse, and integration of engineering information.
Technical Documentation and Program Support
· Prepare technical reports documenting model development, analytical methods, assumptions, results, and conclusions.
· Support IPS and LBES design analysis reports, integration documentation, requirements documents, and acquisition-related technical deliverables.
· Brief modeling and analysis results to engineering teams, design working groups, and program stakeholders.
· Participate in technical reviews, modeling and simulation working groups, design discussions, and risk management meetings.
· Coordinate modeling and analysis deliverables with broader program schedules and engineering milestones.
· Collaborate with government and contractor personnel to address technical questions, evaluate design alternatives, and support program objectives.
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university.
· Minimum of five (5) years of system modeling experience.
· Demonstrated experience developing, modifying, or maintaining system models in an MBSE environment.
· Experience with system architecture, requirements modeling, system structure, behavior, interfaces, or parametric modeling.
· Experience using Cameo Systems Modeler or comparable systems modeling platforms.
· Understanding of systems engineering principles and the application of model-based methods to complex engineering systems.
· Ability to interpret engineering requirements, technical specifications, system architectures, and engineering documentation.
· Strong analytical, problem-solving, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
· Ability to work on-site at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard.
Preferred Qualifications
· OMG Certified Systems Modeling Professional™ (OCSMP) Intermediate certification.
· Experience developing SysML-based models using Cameo Systems Modeler.
· Experience with logical and physical architectures, requirements traceability, and verification and validation models.
· Experience modeling and integrating complex electrical, mechanical, control, or other interconnected engineering systems.
· Experience with Integrated Power Systems (IPS), shipboard electrical systems, power electronics, supervisory control systems, or HM&E components.
· Experience with real-time and non-real-time modeling and simulation or system-level engineering analysis.
· Experience with model integration, tradespace evaluation, and design alternative assessment.
· Experience with Java, Python, or similar programming languages for engineering tools and automation.
· Experience supporting Navy, maritime, submarine, defense, or other government engineering programs.
· Familiarity with digital engineering, product lifecycle management, and model-based engineering workflows.
Clearance & Certifications/Special Requirements:
· U.S. citizenship required; must possess or be able to obtain a Secret clearance.
· Must have a valid US passport or the ability to obtain one upon position acceptance.
