Full time fixed term for one (1) year at Camperdown Be part of leading research in wireless communications and loT Base Salary HEO 7 $117,133 - $127,610 or HEO 8 $131,108 to $147,858 + 17% superannuation About the opportunity The School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Sydney is one of Australia's leading centres for research and education in telecommunications, embedded systems, artificial intelligence, robotics, computing and emerging digital technologies. We are seeking to appoint a Software Engineer to contribute to cutting-edge research and development in wireless communications. This role will work closely with industry partners to design, develop and implement firmware and drivers for WiFi and IoT devices, supporting innovative applications in IoT and telecommunications. This is an exciting opportunity to apply your technical expertise in a collaborative research environment while contributing to cutting-edge technologies with real-world impact. Appointment will be made at HEO7 or HEO8 depending on the successful candidate's experience, technical expertise and demonstrated leadership capability. Your key responsibilities will be to: develop and implement embedded firmware and driver solutions for WiFi and IoT devices, including STM32 and ESP32 platforms design, develop and optimise software applications using C/C++ and Python develop real-time applications in RTOS and embedded Linux environments undertake testing, debugging, validation and integration of software solutions with hardware and IoT systems collaborate with researchers, technical staff and industry partners to deliver project milestones and research outcomes provide technical advice and contribute to the development of innovative wireless communication and IoT solutions prepare technical documentation, reports and software artefacts to support project delivery and knowledge transfer ensure software quality, reliability and effective project delivery against agreed timelines Additional expectations for appointment at HEO8: provide expert technical leadership across software development activities and research projects lead software architecture and design decisions for complex embedded systems mentor and develop junior engineers, researchers and technical staff contribute to technical strategy and stakeholder engagement across industry and research collaborations About you For appointment at HEO7, you will demonstrate: a bachelor's degree in software engineering, computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of training and experience demonstrated experience in embedded software and firmware development experience developing WiFi, networked or IoT-enabled systems strong proficiency in C/C++ and Python programming experience developing applications in RTOS and embedded Linux environments strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively. For appointment at HEO8, you will additionally demonstrate: experience leading the design and development of complex embedded software platforms recognised technical expertise in wireless communications, IoT technologies or embedded systems engineering demonstrated ability to provide expert technical advice to researchers, industry partners and project stakeholders experience mentoring technical staff and contributing to capability development proven ability to lead complex technical projects and influence project outcomes through sound judgement and technical leadership.
