Department (OC) WADS - Wadsworth Center Job Description: Responsibilities Health Research, Inc. is seeking a Research Scientist I to work within the Division of Genetics, Wadsworth Center, New York State Department of Health. The Research Scientist I will offer a stimulating opportunity for an ambitious individual to advance their research through work in molecular microbiology and pathogenesis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) in a mouse model of infection. The incumbent will perform experiments that deploy techniques of molecular genetics, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and cell biology - specifically within the framework of a mouse model of an Mtb infection. The Research Scientist I will extensively handle mice, including infecting mice with Mtb, perform intrapulmonary delivery of drugs in Mtb-infected mice, and analyze the lung pathology of these mice. In addition, the incumbent will support the daily operation of the laboratory animal program that includes contributing to the writing of IACUC protocols, participation in routine IACUC-related meetings, mouse breeding, and routine husbandry. This position will be part of a dynamic team serving the Wadsworth Center’s mission in the New York State Department of Health’s efforts to protect and promote the health of New York’s citizens. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of research experience; OR a Master’s degree in a related field and one year of research experience. Preferred Qualifications At least four years of research experience. Experience in molecular genetics. Experience working in high-containment facilities. Experience utilizing rodent models of infectious disease. Conditions of Employment Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required. Visa sponsorship may be available for this position, in accordance with applicable federal requirements. Travel up to 10% of the time will be required. The selected candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location specified in the job posting and must also be located in or willing to relocate to one of the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts, prior to hire. This position is fully onsite and does not allow telecommuting. The incumbent in this position will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE). HRI participates in the E-Verify Program.
