Full description
Established in 1972, Mount Vernon School serves over 1,250 students in Preschool through Grade 12 on our 40-acre Atlanta campus. Grounded in Christian values, Mount Vernon prepares all students to be college-ready, globally competitive, and engaged citizen leaders. Mount Vernon School anchors the Mount Vernon Organization as a destination of inquiry, innovation, and impact. Through MVSO, the online division of our Upper School, and MV Ventures, our research and educational consultancy, our organization is living its mission to design a better world by providing unique and differentiated value for all community members now and into the future.
The Team
The Brand Team functions as an internal marketing, creative, and communications agency. They serve the entire Mount Vernon Organization, including the School, MVSO - the virtual Global Campus, and Ventures - the educational consultancy. The team includes the Chief Brand Officer, Director of Web Development & Digital Experience, 2 Graphic Designers, Brand Storyteller & Content Coordinator, and School Store Manager, each contributing to strategic storytelling, visual design, and digital engagement. Highly collaborative and primarily in-person, with some hybrid flexibility, the team leverages digital tools and frequent touchpoints to produce an incredible number of high-quality assets that elevate the Mount Vernon identity.
The Role
Mount Vernon is full of stories worth telling. This role goes out and finds them. The Brand Storyteller & Content Coordinator is a curious, personable reporter and content creator. They spend their days in classrooms, at events, and across campus, uncovering stories and turning them into compelling social content. They work across Mount Vernon School (MVS), Mount Vernon School Online (MVSO), and Mount Vernon Ventures (MVV). They also support in keeping the Brand team’s photography and creative operations running smoothly.
What You’ll Do
Find and Tell Stories
- Be a regular presence in classrooms, at events, and around campus, and build trusted relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
- Report stories proactively: follow leads, conduct interviews, and gather the details that bring a story to life, rather than waiting for requests.
- Own each story from discovery through capture and publication.
Plan and Create Social Content
- Build social content plans and calendars for MVS, MVSO, and MVV, adapting voice and format to each brand and audience.
- Film, edit, and publish Reels, short-form video, Stories, carousels, and photography independently.
- Write captions, hooks, and copy for each platform.
- Turn campaigns, initiatives, and events into social-first content, and develop recurring series and interview formats.
- Track trends and performance, and use what works to improve reach and engagement.
Manage Photography
- Plan photography coverage for events, athletics, and campaigns.
- Schedule and brief external photographers on details, shot lists, and logistics.
- Organize delivered photo and video assets so the Brand team and stakeholders can find and use them.
Coordinate Print Vendors
- Manage external print projects from quote to delivery, including specs, orders, timelines, and vendor communication.
- Keep vendor information and production records organized.
Back Up Internal Print
- Learn Mount Vernon’s in-house print equipment and finishing processes, and step in for the graphic designers when needed.
Requirements
- 1–3 years in content creation, social media, communications, journalism, or a related field. Internships and hands-on work count.
- A portfolio showing organic social content you created yourself, including Reels and short-form video.
- Confidence approaching and interviewing people, with strong storytelling instincts.
- Proficiency in Canva and a video editing tool.
- Experience managing content for multiple brands or accounts.
- Strong organization and follow-through across multiple projects, deadlines, and vendors.
- Clear, confident communication with colleagues and outside partners.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in schools, nonprofits, agencies, or newsrooms.
- Experience working with photographers or print vendors.
- Photography skills, Adobe Creative Cloud, social scheduling and analytics tools, or monday.com.
You’ll Thrive Here If
You can walk into a classroom, start a conversation, and leave with a story worth telling. You don’t need to be a professional designer or photographer. You do need to be curious, resourceful, organized, and open to feedback.
What Success Looks Like
- A steady pipeline of authentic stories found through relationships, not just submitted requests.
- Consistent, engaging social content across all three brands that reflects Mount Vernon’s energy and personality.
- Each brand has its own audience, voice, and tone, and each platform has its own style, so this role adapts every story to fit both.
- Photography needs anticipated and covered, with smooth coordination among photographers and internal teams.
- Print projects delivered accurately and on time.
- Reliable backup coverage for in-house print production.
