Description
The Senior Tableau Developer is responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and optimizing secure Tableau dashboards, reports, data queries, and reporting solutions within a highly secure government data environment. The position integrates and aggregates data from multiple authorized sources, validates data and reporting outputs, automates recurring daily reporting processes, and optimizes data queries and Tableau solutions for performance, reliability, and scalability. The Senior Tableau Developer also implements and maintains appropriate security controls, troubleshoots complex data and reporting issues, and collaborates with government stakeholders and technical teams to translate mission and business requirements into accurate, secure, and actionable business intelligence solutions.
Strong experience with Tableau Business Intelligence (BI) and Analysis tool, including:
- Develop and maintain Tableau solutions: Design, develop, maintain, and enhance complex Tableau dashboards, reports, workbooks, and visualizations that support government mission and business requirements.
- Integrate and optimize data: Develop and optimize queries and data connections and integrate, transform, and aggregate data from multiple authorized sources to support accurate and efficient reporting.
- Validate data and reporting: Review and validate data, queries, reports, and dashboard outputs to ensure accuracy, completeness, consistency, and traceability to authoritative source data.
- Manage security and performance: Maintain Tableau security configurations and optimize dashboards, workbooks, queries, extracts, and data sources to ensure secure, reliable, and efficient operations.
- Support stakeholders and continuous improvement: Collaborate with stakeholders and technical teams to translate requirements into reporting solutions, troubleshoot issues, and identify opportunities to improve reporting processes and capabilities.
- Automate daily reporting: Design, develop, and maintain automated processes for data refresh, report generation, distribution, and dashboard updates to support recurring daily reporting requirements and minimize manual reporting activities.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain ETL/ELT workflows for structured and unstructured data.
- Conduct both qualitative and quantitative research using client data, formulate hypotheses, test them and present the results in a clear and concise manner.
- Use advanced statistical techniques to identify and measure trends, anomalies and determine other relevant insight.
- Create visualizations and other tools that allow users to interact with data.
Requirements
- Advanced Tableau expertise: Demonstrated proficiency with Tableau Cloud and Tableau Desktop using a Tableau Creator license, including dashboard development, calculated fields, parameters, filters, and interactive visualizations.
- Data engineering and SQL: Strong SQL and relational database skills, including data modeling, joins, aggregations, transformations, data integration, and query optimization.
- Data quality and performance: Expertise in data validation, reconciliation, quality assurance, Tableau performance optimization, extract management, and efficient workbook design.
- Security and government environments: Experience implementing access controls, permissions, data-level security, and secure data connections within highly restricted, sensitive, or federal government environments.
- Technical analysis and communication: Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills, with the ability to translate stakeholder requirements into secure, scalable, and maintainable BI solutions.
- Expertise in Python and/or R, SQL and Databricks or similar software.
- Ability to quickly understand complex data structures and formulate queries to extract information as needed.
- Ability to build both simple and complex analytical, statistical, AI/ML or other models using client data that fulfill a quantitative purpose/problem asked by the client.
- Ability to quickly understand the operational underpinnings of data found in enterprise systems.
- Ability to quickly understand client business requirements using a variety of methods such as interviews, document analysis, and self-directed research.
- Ability to think analytically, outside-the-box, and dive to the root cause of situations.
- Ability to successfully engage in multiple initiatives simultaneously and prioritize appropriately.
- Ability to gather and interpret large amounts of data and information and quickly recognize what is superfluous and what is relevant using analytical and statistical techniques.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to interact professionally.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting federal websites, ideally a statistical or data-publishing agency.
- Extensive experience working with immigration data.
- Experience working in Agile / Scrum delivery with Jira or a similar tool.
- Active DHS suitability / Public Trust.
