Summer Marketing Intern

Shelby County State Bank (SCSB) is excited to offer a Marketing Internship for a motivated student interested in exploring a career in marketing within community banking. This internship reports directly to the SVP of Marketing and provides opportunities to collaborate with team members across the organization. The intern will gain hands-on marketing experience while contributing fresh ideas and perspectives to support the bank’s brand, communications, and community engagement efforts.

JOB TYPE:
Full- time intern (10-12 weeks) from May-August, located in Harlan, Iowa.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Applicants should be currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s (B.A. or B.S.) or completed their Associate degree program, preferably in marketing, communications, business, graphic design, or a related field.

Candidates should:

• Have working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign)
• Have working knowledge of Canva
• Have experience creating and scheduling content on social media platforms
• Be familiar with Microsoft Office programs
• Have strong written and verbal communication skills
• Be comfortable working independently and as part of a team
• Demonstrate creativity, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn
• Maintain a positive and professional attitude

INTERNSHIP OBJECTIVES:
The Marketing Intern will gain experience in several key areas of marketing and communications, including:

• Assist with marketing campaigns, promotions, and product communications
• Support social media content creation and scheduling
• Help create marketing materials such as flyers, digital graphics, and advertisements
• Assist with website updates and content development
• Participate in community engagement and event marketing
• Conduct research on marketing trends and competitor activity
• Support internal communications and branding initiatives
• Contribute creative ideas for marketing campaigns and customer engagement
• Gain an understanding of the community banking industry and the role marketing plays in customer relationships

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The intern will primarily work in a professional office setting at SCSB’s headquarters in downtown Harlan, Iowa. Occasional travel may be required to other branch locations across Western Iowa or to nearby communities for marketing events or internship-related activities. The intern will also represent SCSB at community events such as parades, fairs, and local activities, helping promote the bank and strengthen community connections.
