Position Scope:
The Human Resources & Communications Intern supports the daily operations of the HR department while assisting with internal communications, employee engagement initiatives, and onboarding activities. This role provides hands-on experience in multiple areas of Human Resources, including onboarding, employee records management, recruiting support, orientation facilitation, and employee communications. The intern will also assist in creating HR materials, maintaining digital communication boards and TV screens, developing presentations and promotional content, and supporting company-wide employee programs. Working under the guidance of HR leadership and specialists, the intern gains exposure to real-world HR practices while helping deliver an engaging and informative employee experience across the organization.
Requirements
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- Basic understanding of human resources principles and workplace practices
- Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Familiarity with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or other graphic design tools preferred
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and projects simultaneously
- Ability to create professional presentations, flyers, announcements, and communication materials
Preferred Qualification(s):
- Coursework or experience in Human Resources, Communications, Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field
- Familiarity with employee communications, social media, graphic design, or content creation
- Experience with presentations, digital signage, newsletters, or event planning through school projects or internships
- Interest in pursuing a career in Human Resources, Talent Development, Internal Communications, or Organizational Development
Education Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in a degree program related to Human Resources, Communications, Marketing, Business, Public Relations, or a similar field
- Completion of introductory coursework in Human Resources, Communications, Marketing, or Business preferred
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist in coordinating and facilitating new hire orientation sessions
- Create and update onboarding guides, training resources, handouts, and orientation materials
- Assist with employee communications, announcements, newsletters, and engagement campaigns
- Develop content for company TV screens, digital signage, bulletin boards, and employee information displays
- Support HR presentations, recruiting materials, career fair resources, and employee-focused communications
- Assist with company events, recognition programs, training sessions, and employee engagement activities
- Provide general administrative support including data entry, filing, document preparation, and scheduling assistance
- Participate in HR meetings, training sessions, and project discussions
- Support benefits communications and other HR program materials
- Ensure compliance with company policies and confidentiality requirements
- Provide administrative and project support to the HR team, including presentations, visual communications, training resources, events, and other employee-focused initiatives
Leadership Responsibilities:
- Support HR team members by completing assigned tasks accurately and on time
- Demonstrate initiative by identifying opportunities to improve employee communications and onboarding materials
- Contribute to a positive and professional HR environment
- Assist in improving HR and communication processes by offering observations and suggestions
- Represent the organization professionally during employee orientations, events, and recruiting activities
Preferred Experience and Skills:
- Experience with office administration, customer service, communications, marketing, or event coordination
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
- Experience creating presentations, flyers, newsletters, social media content, or digital communications
- Familiarity with design software preferred
- Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn new systems and technologies
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Familiarity with HR software, applicant tracking systems, or content management tools is helpful but not required
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working on HR and communication projects
- Ability to focus on detailed work with accuracy
- Occasional visits to branch locations for onboarding, orientation, communication, or employee engagement activities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a learning environment
- Ability to assist with event setup, materials distribution, and orientation logistics as needed
Work Environment:
- Primarily office-based with regular interaction across HR, hiring managers, employees, and leadership teams
- Fast-paced environment requiring adaptability, creativity, and strong communication skills
- Frequent involvement in employee-facing activities, orientations, communications, and engagement initiatives
- Standard business hours with flexibility based on school schedules
